Stories From Young African Poets: Crime, Poetry and Musaa King.

My story begins in the slams of Nairobi, Mathare Valley. A place where all kinds of crimes are seen and witnessed. The environment around wasn’t the best one and therefore, I needed somewhere safe.

I joined Maji mazuri Headstart Academy where I met Griffins Ndhine Otieno, a computer science and Mathematics Graduate, a poet, Coach who introduced me to Poetry at the age of Eight years old.

I love one of his best poems, “My Mother” the poem carries the weight of appreciating our mothers. My Mother’s poem is one of the poems that inspired me to start writing. Been writing and performing for the last 10 years.

Musaa King, Kenyan.

I have performed on different stages: Poetry After Lunch(PAL), Poets You Should Know, Rafinki Open mic, Poetry Spot, National Museum of Kenya just a few to mention. I am also an award winning Poet under KitFest 2024, Slammed on Poetry Slam Africa.

My poetry evolves around untold stories in the community.
