On May 24th, 2025, the Roving Heights Bookstore in Garki, Abuja, welcomed Masobe Books author Umar Abubakar Sidi for a reading from his acclaimed debut novel, The Incredible Dreams of Garba Dakaskus.
At one point during the event, the titular character—madman, murderer, and literary fugitive—was reportedly sighted lurking among the audience. By the time policemen from the Garki Area Command arrived to apprehend him, however, he had vanished without a trace. The management of Roving Heights remains tight-lipped on whether any books disappeared along with the mysterious visitor.
Moderated by writer and cultural advocate Haneefah Abdulrahman, the session brought together members of Abuja’s literary scene for an afternoon of rich conversation and storytelling. Images from the event capture a rapt audience, lively dialogue, and moments of joy as Sidi signed books and shared insights into the surreal world of his novel.
