Inaugural Orange Poetry Live Show, A Resounding Success

[28th June, 2024] The Tigray Coffee x Rovingheights café hosted the first Orange Poetry Live Show, in partnership with Konya Shamsrumi, 30 Second Poetry, and Pyros Academy. Director ET, the night’s impresario and Orange Poetry don, was on hand with his partner, the poet Pariolodo, to guarantee a splendid event despite the unexpectedly heavy Abuja rains.

The café was brought to life with the power of spoken word and the smell of our 100% Nigerian arabica Kwararafa coffee. The special giveaway—a N5,000 book voucher—was won by Adetutu whose ticket number 13 was randomly drawn by Tigray Coffee CEO, Richard Ali. Performers included Mjay, Keesh Rowland, Tamara Dogubo, Che Joy, Zainab Xele, Dayana, and Peter Kwange. The event was graced by the city’s literati including the poet and fabric designer, Star Zahra, the critic Paul Liam, as well as Nana Ize Sule, who was in town for the Flame Tree Writers Workshop curated by Abubakar Adam Ibrahim and Chika Unigwe.

Tigray Coffee’s barista, Yeni Phillips, who runs its new Bunavista location at Mabushi, was the night’s surprise performer. There was also a session of book readings from the Konya Shamsrumi list.

Amateur photos of the event are below; official photos to follow.
