When, in the middle of the COVID-19 lockdown, Transpoesis director, Andrea Grieder, discovered Nakivale Refugee Settlement-dwelling Songa Leslamotherapeute’s poetry video—I still stand—she knew that if someone living under the harshest conditions could come up with such powerful art, an echo bigger than random enthusiasts listening in is needed. What is needed is a festival, connecting people beyond their limited spaces and allowing young talents share their experiences, emotions and wisdom with the world.

So here we are: The Festival on the Wings of Technology will hold from 27—29 November, 2020, on the platform of the International Refugee Poetry Network (IRPN).

Poets are invited to submit their work for the poetry video competition. The videos will be showcased on the Festival platform.

So: use your smartphone or work with a videographer to record your poetry and head over to Refugee Poetry for information on how to apply and submit.

Deadline: 22 November 2020.

During the festival, local teams from Kenya, Uganda and Rwanda will contribute with online-streamed live-events on the topic of Refugeeness, in partnership with Goethe Institut, University of Lincoln (UK), Literaturhaus, Zürich/Switzerland.
