You are invited to join current students and lecturers at the University of Sussex for a creative writing experience in an online workshop with Sussex Writes that would explore memory, recovery and healing. Inspired by Sussex Writes alumnus and multiple poetry laureate S. Su’eddie Vershima Agema and his new work, Memory and the Call of Waters (Winner, Association of Nigerian Authors Poetry Prize 2022/Finalist, Nigeria Prize for Literature 2022), the workshop will explore how memories are built, what happens to memory, and where and how they can be held in a piece of writing, whether prose or poem. This is Sussex Writes first global writing cafe for the new academic year and would hold on Saturday 19th November 2022 from 11:00-13:00 GMT (12:00-14:00 West African Time).
It doesn’t matter if you haven’t written a story since you were in primary school or if you are a professional writer: you are welcome to come and join this free creative writing event. This is a chance for self expression and creating a global community of young writers as a way of healing – and of empowering the imagination!
It is a chance to discuss ideas with new people, share your experiences, and explore healing and recovery. We have a special focus on well-being and mental health. You will also get some skills, tips and ideas to help you with your writing, whether you write for fun or are planning on (or have) a career in the media or mental health. Along the way, you will also get a taste of life at a university in the UK!

A Zoom link will be emailed to registered participants forty-eight hours before the event.
Participants will also receive an attendance certificate.
