Call for Entries: Abuja Literary + Arts Festival 2020 Anthology

The Abuja Literary + Arts Festival 2020 calls for poetry and fiction submissions to its 2020 Anthology, guest-edited by Helon Habila.

“We are hoping to get pieces that loosely relate to the theme of empathy (which may be interpreted in any way by writers.) Accepted pieces will appear besides veteran writers such as Helon Habila, Odafe Atogun, Dike Chukwumerije and Mohale Mashigo.

Submissions open on November 9 and close November 28. Please find the guidelines below:

Fiction:

  1. We consider one (1) fiction submission from each writer. Submissions should be between 1000 and 3000 words themed on EMPATHY. We, however, will consider works that are slightly outside this range. We will consider both previously published and unpublished works.
  2. Submissions should be double-spaced, 12-point with legible fonts, with the word count in the top right corner of the first page. Do not include any identifying information in the submissions.
  3. Submissions should be sent as a doc/docx attachment to submissions@alitfest.com . In the subject line, please use the format: Fiction/Name of Writer/Name of Work i.e Fiction/Abubakar Mahmud/ The Joys of Loss. Please include a brief cover letter (including information on the publication history of the piece, if any) in the body of the email.

Poetry:

  1. Each poet can submit up to two (2) poems, not more than two (2) pages in total, themed on EMPATHY. We consider both previously published and unpublished poems.
  2. Poetry submissions should be sent as an attachment to submissions@alitfest.com . In the subject line, please use the format: Poetry/Name of Poet/Title of Work(s) i.e. Poetry/Ademide Comer/Oh Mother! Please include a brief cover letter (including information on the publication history of the piece, if any) in the body of the email.

We aim to respond to all submissions within fourteen (14) days of each submission but due to the number of requests we get, response rates may slightly vary.

All accepted writers offer ALitFest non-exclusive right to publish their works in the anthology. All rights revert back to the author upon publication. We however, request that (where applicable) upon republishing, you recognize ALITFEST as the initial publishers of the piece.”
