Cafe 24 is a bi-weekly competition aimed at budding poets in Nigeria run under the umbrella of Konya Shamsrumi. Konya Shamsrumi Press is an African poetry publishing house based in Abuja.
This call is sponsored with the support of the poet, Daisy Odey.
Benefits: A stipend and winning poem to be published on shamsrumi.org
Deadline: July 25th, 2024
As the year continues to run, the call continues with this month’s theme being “Arewa!”. Channeling Aisha Aliyu Bima’s ongoing exhibition at the Shyllon Museum, Lagos, this call is for poetic examinations of northern Nigeria, however defined. Northern Nigeria evokes images, tendencies, and attitudes that cut across the historical, cultural, political, and more, drawn from a diversity of peoples. Have you got that one poem that speaks to the heart of our theme? Then this call is for you.
Poets, especially younger poets are encouraged to send in a single original, unpublished poem. Please inform us immediately if the submitted work is published elsewhere before the winner is announced. Previously submitted work is ineligible.
This edition’s entries will be judged by Richard Ali. Richard Ali is a Nigerian lawyer and writer who has published the novel, City of Memories (2013), and the poetry collection The Anguish and Vigilance of Things (2019).
