Wake up now, get ready it’s time for school
Come make your hair now so you can look cool
Mama, My human alarm, always calling the shots
How I long to oversee my own thoughts
I can’t wait to eat what I want
It would be amazing to decide when I can’t
Why should I head to bed when the adults are up?
Why should I be left out when there is a wine pop?
Like the prayer of Jabez, like the prayer of Hannah
I got my answer, and it was calculated against time
Sleeping always equalled poverty and meant I had no dime
Who would remind me to rise, to invest, who would insist
On the things I need to do, as life makes an unending list?
Nobody cares that I’ve had enough
Taking full responsibility is really tough
I wonder, why I was in such a hurry…
But you have a chance to have a better story.
Dear Child, take your time and enjoy childhood
Adulthood is best when you’re ready, then it will be good.
